American Bison is a species of bison native to North America. Also known by its indigenous Lakota name, tatanka, and sometimes colloquially referred to as buffalo. It is one of two surviving species of bison, alongside the European bison.
The bison is front and center on the Wyoming flag, making it a familiar icon in the state. The design on this shirt was inspired by the commonly seen Wyoming propensity to "put a buffalo on it," which is similar to the commonly seen artist propensity to "put a bird on it."
